The village Ernst has 636 inhabitants and 418 ha of land, 111ha of it for viticulture and 224ha forrest.
The "wine-village" Ernst on the Mosel...
is an ancient village near Cochem (4 km).
Picturesque, narrow lanes, old half-timbered houses, a more than 2000 year-old history of viticulture and the typical hospitality of the Mosel region make our village
interresting and amiable. In Ernst -as well as in Valwig, wich lies on the other side of the Mosel- the famous prussian construction inspector Johann Claudius von Lassaulx
built the parish church St. Salvator 1845-46 in the neo-romanesque style with two slender double towers. They rise at the Mosel bank from the line of the
impressive winegrower-houses, wich represent Ernst as a wine community to our visitors.
The majority of the vineyards lies on the other side of the Mosel.
Formerly, they were reached by little canoes, but since 1903 a ferry was used.
If composure or diversion - here you can
experience your holiday actively. Water-, forrest-, hill- and valley-hiking as well as cycling; trips by boat on the Mosel, excursions to the neighbouring Luxemburg, to the
2000 year-old Roman founded city of Trier or to the metropole of precious stones Idar Oberstein; visit wine- and street- festivals; or simply relax. Further destinations for
trips are: Beilstein, Bernkastel Kues, Nürburgring,Vulkaneifel.
